What is Las Fallas de Valencia?

You can find some interesting facts about the festival`s program in 2019 below

  • The Falla Commission of Cuba–Literato Azorín will be the only falla of Fallas 2019 that keeps the show of turning on the lights.
  • All the other important commissions in Ruzafa will take part in the traditional contest but with no shows.
  • We are waiting for more details about Falla Avenida Malvarrosa – A.Ponz – Cavite.

On Friday, March 8, 2019, from 20:00 onwards, the traditional lighting of the main illuminated streets will be inaugurated: Falla Cuba-Literato Azorín (at the crossroads of C/ Cuba and C/ Literato Azorín); Falla Sueca-Literato Azorín (at the crossroads of C/ Literato Azorín and C/ Sueca); Falla Cuba-Puerto Rico; and Falla Avenida Malvarrosa – A.Ponz – Cavite (Avda. Malvarrosa, 92).

However, this year they have a great novelty: Cuba–Literato Azorín will be the only falla of Fallas 2019 that keeps the show of turning on the lights, so Falla Sueca-Literato Azorín will have no lighting show, because it withdrew after the meeting with the Bando Fallero, which obliged it to ensure the reconciliation of neighbours and hoteliers and to guarantee the routes of evacuation.

According to the statements to officialpress.es, the Commission of Sueca-Literato Azorín has confirmed that “the decision not to make the desired show of turning on the lights this year was made at the meeting of Falla at the Council of Festive Culture and Civil Protection. This is to guarantee the reconciliation of neighbours and hoteliers and the correct functioning of the established routes of evacuation”.

However, the investment is similar to 2018, approximately from EUR 60.000 to EUR 70.000, for the purpose of getting back the maximum recognition, which is not given by the show. “The fact that we do not make the show allows us to expand the illuminated zone to the entire demarcation as we have been doing for more than 50 years”, according to the statements to Officialpress.es.

The Bando Fallero of 2019 made it clear at one moment that “in case of making shows of turning on the lights capable of attracting over 5.000 persons, the organizing committee will have to guarantee”:

  • “The presence of at least one properly equipped evacuation unit or ambulance according to the regulations of terrestrial sanitary transport. The ambulance must be available permanently one hour before the start of the show and until its completion. The absence of the ambulance, even for a moment, will suspend the show”.
  • “The possibility to switch off the entire installation from one fixed point, operated by the responsible person”.

A.T.E. ILUMINACION has already installed illumination in the Commission over the past 15 years and received great awards. The opening will take place on March 8, the hour has not yet been established, because it depends on the arrival of Fallera Mayor of Valencia 2019 and its Court of Honour. This day we will be able to enjoy a musical turning on the lights.

The illumination consists of one doorway of 15 meters and 30 light arches gbr, which are not typical garlands installed by other commissions. There will be the best kept secret, with five people per arch, and they will not leave anyone indifferent for their ingenuity, grace and novelty. Fantasy patterns and curtains will be located by sides, from arch to arch. Illumination will be at the plaza where the Fallas are mounted. There will be 250 meters of illumination in total.

There will be musical turning on the lights every day from 20:00, with repetitions every half hour. As the days of Fallas, when the flow of people grows, draw nearer, the schedule of lighting will be prolonged until 00:00.
